But MICE takes on a very different meaning for business travel, standing for Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Events. In this blog we look at some of our teams’ international recommendations for MICE, and why it works from both a delegate experience and an event management perspective. As the entertainment capital of the world and conference hub of the US, Las Vegas is an obvious choice for incentive and conferencing events. Our Auckland G&E team highlight the destination’s ability to offer unique experiences that add an incredible customer experience to your incentive trip or conference – many of which appear on everyday bucket lists. Case in point, the Grand Canyon, which is only a quick hop by helicopter from Las Vegas. Las Vegas is also entertainment central with many international headline acts on at any one time including the likes of Rod Stewart, Cher and Lionel Richie. Coupled with the many other comedy, musical and theatre shows on offer and a virtual buffet of Cirque du Soleil shows – there is no shortage of entertainment options to complement your itinerary. Las Vegas does not have a traditional off-peak season; however, the team recommend the cooler months of October and September as an ideal time to plan your trip or event. Travelling to Las Vegas is easy too with many airlines offering options. From relaxing time spent around the pool, great food and entertainment options, to adrenaline filled activities - Las Vegas really does tick all the destination boxes for MICE.
South Africa offers a truly unique experience for MICE opportunities. Our G&E team in Hamilton is a strong supporter of this cost effective, year-round destination that has something for everyone. A competitive exchange rate means the client dollar goes further and with activities such as wildlife safaris, whale watching and shark cage diving on offer, budgets are put to great work. The team also highlighted the diverse landscape which provides a spectacular backdrop to any group activities. While South Africa is considered a year-round destination, there are some ideal times for some of activities we’ve mentioned above. The team advised that the best time to visit the game parks is from May to September, while July through November is the best time to experience whale watching in the Cape region. Another plus if you’re organising a group is the range of accommodation options available.
Closer to home, our Wellington G&E team recommends Nuie in the Pacific Islands. Nuie may be one of the smallest countries in the world but it packs a lot of punch for a MICE destination. The team noted its proximity to New Zealand (including common time zone and currency), its multitude of adventure activities and the warm hospitality of locals as key benefits. Swimming with dolphins, excellent diving and snorkelling in crystal clear waters, whale watching, and cave adventures are all on offer on this intimate island of only 1,500 residents. The team uses the Scenic Matavai Resort as one of their options for hosting groups. Set on a cliff with spectacular sunsets, guests can enjoy a relaxing drink overlooking where the dolphins play. The team recommend travelling to Nuie between April and November, though the country experiences great weather for most the year.
